Inflation. Interest rates. Tariffs. National debt. Money printing.
You’ve probably heard all of these terms before. You might even know what they mean. But there’s a difference between recognizing an economic term and actually understanding how it all fits together.
The book uses a simple story, illustrations, and humor to explain some surprisingly complicated economic concepts. It covers inflation, interest rates, monetary policy, debt, economies of scale, and more without making you feel like you're reading a college economics textbook.
I honestly don't remember how I came across this book, but I've read it every few years because it's such an easy, and funny, read.
I also don't know how accurately it represents every aspect of economics, and I often found myself wishing I had someone to talk to about the ideas while I was reading it. Some of the ideas I took away from the book, particularly the benefits of limited regulation, sometimes put me at odds with my own political views.
But that's part of why I like it.
It gave me a framework for thinking about the economy and helped me understand why things happen instead of simply knowing that they happen.
If you've ever wanted to understand economics a little better but didn't want to take an economics course, this is one book I'd recommend.
Believe it or not... you might actually laugh while learning about monetary policy!
